Our Impact Award Journey

The FIRST Impact Award, previously known as the Chairman's Award, is the most prestigious award in FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). It honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the mission of FIRST. The Impact Award recognizes teams for their exemplary efforts in spreading the FIRST message. It was created to keep the central focus of FRC on transforming in ways that will inspire greater levels of respect and honor of science.

This 2023 season, the Metal Jackets won the Impact Award at the FIRST Chesapeake District Portsmouth Event. With this award, we have qualified for the FIRST Chesapeake District Championship on April 6-8 at Eagle Bank Arena, where we will submit our presentation again for a chance to win a spot at the FRC World Championship in Houston. The Metal Jackets would like to thank our presentation team (Melissa G, Maya S, and Sarah P) and videographer (Alex D) as well as the rest of our business team for the stellar submission. You can view our video, which showcases some of the key achievements we have accomplished to win this award, below!

The Impact Award holds a special place in the Metal Jackets' hearts. What we love about the Impact Award is that it is not something you can win after just one season. It requires years of hard work and dedication not only as a robotics team, but as important figures in our community. Every team member we have had, every event we have hosted or helped at, has contributed towards who we are as a team today. We are proud of our wins, but it is Impact behavior that makes an Impact Award team, not the blue banner.
