The Virginia High School League, otherwise known as VHSL, is the governing organization of interscholastic athletics and activities in Virginia. It establishes rules, promotes fair competition, and provides opportunities for Virginia students to participate in sports and extracurriculars. In 2018, our team successfully advocated for Robotics to be considered a Varsity lettering sport under VHSL. Accordingly, VHSL has expanded its recognition to include STEM based activities. Directly acknowledging the dedication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that Robotics demands. FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) now stands alongside traditional sports giving students the opportunity to show their skills in an extremely competitive environment. This recognition underscores the importance of robotics as both an educational tool and a varsity-level activity that develops future leaders in STEM.
