The Metal Jackets Advocate to the General Assembly for Multiple Impactful Bills on Presidents' Day 2026
Prince William County, VA - February 18, 2026 - On Presidents Day, students from FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 2068, The Metal Jackets, traveled to the Virginia General Assembly to advocate for legislation and funding that support STEM education, workforce readiness, and student opportunity across the Commonwealth.
While at the Capitol, team members met with legislators and staff to voice support for Senate Bill 4 (SB4), introduced by Senator Danica Roem, Senate Bill 105 (SB105), introduced by Senator William Stanley, and the team's proposed V-STEP (Virginia STEM Talent Pipeline) budget amendment, carried by Delegate Michelle Maldonado, which would expand access to high-quality technical and career-focused education for students statewide.
"As students directly impacted by STEM policy and funding, it was incredibly meaningful to advocate for these bills in person," said Ariana Skye Palmer, the team's President. "Programs like FIRST robotics don't only teach engineering, but teach leadership, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving skills that Virginia's future workforce depends on."
The Metal Jackets emphasized how sustained investment in STEM initiatives and career and technical education programs strengthens local economies, prepares students for high-demand fields, and keeps Virginia competitive nationally.
The visit highlighted the team's mission beyond competition: empowering students to become informed civic leaders who engage with public policy and advocate for educational equity and innovation.
FRC Team 2068, The Metal Jackets thank Virginia's legislators for their time, consideration, and continued commitment to supporting students across the Commonwealth.
