The Metal Jackets Deliver Outstanding Performance in Chesapeake
Prince William County, VA - March 24, 2026 - The Metal Jackets proudly announce an amazing performance at the 2026 FIRST® Chesapeake Chesapeake Event, hosted at Hickory High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. The team delivered one of its strongest showings in recent years, earning the Excellence in Engineering Award, serving as alliance captains for the first time since 2012, and officially triple-qualifying for the District Championships through District Points.
Excellence in Engineering Award
The Metal Jackets were honored with the Excellence in Engineering Award, recognizing the team's exceptional technical approach and design process. Judges highlighted the team's intuitive use of Gantt charts, detailed planning strategies, precise execution, and consistent robot maintenance throughout the season.
Alliance Captains for the First Time in 14 Years
For the first time since 2012, the Metal Jackets rose to the role of Alliance Captains, selecting and leading the 7th-seeded alliance during the playoffs. THe team showcased strong match strategy, reliable robot performance, and exceptional coordination with our alliance partners.
Competing as the Captain of Alliance 7, the Metal Jackets advanced through the opening rounds before being eliminated in Round 2 of the Double Elimination Bracket, marking a hard-fought tough playoff run.
The Hampton Roads competition, hosted by FRC Team 2890 – Hawk Collective, provided an electric atmosphere full of energy, sportsmanship, and collaboration. The Metal Jackets thoroughly enjoyed the experience, engaging with teams from across the region, strengthening friendships, and celebrating the spirit of FIRST® Robotics
